The Competence Centre “Microsystem Engineering in Life Sciences” at the University of Applied Sciences Jena was founded in autumn 2006 with the aim to bundle the experiences of the involved working groups and to profit from the propinquity of researching disciplines in further joint research projects. Research efforts – often in collaboration with or commissioned by industrial companies – concentrate on micromotor, microactuator and microsensor engineering, microsensor-based analysis, development of complex analysis technologies/software for microsystem engineering processes, and last but not least biomicrosystems technology.
Based on preliminary works, the principle objective of the Competence Centre is the development of components and comprehensive solutions in the field of microanalysis and microsensor engineering as well as the recording and interpretation of microsystematic engineered data.
The centre of competence wants to bring together the different research activities and with that improved efficiency to increase the amount of third-party founded income for single research projects as well as to be more attractive for focused programs offered by the federal ministries and the EU.
