| Peter Dittrich finished his school time in 1970 with the examination of the “Abitur” together with a certificate as skilled worker in the area of electro mechanics. He studied at the TH Ilmenau (Technical University Ilmenau) “Geraetetechnik”, a course with topics in precision engineering and electrical engineering. The diploma project dealt with linear stepping motors. In 1975 he received the degree of a Dipl.-Ing. In the following years he worked at Ilmenau in the research group of Prof. Kallenbach about electromechanical systems. His field was the investigating of linear motors. He compared reluctance stepping motors with voice coil actuators and a special type of a small synchronous motor. In 1980 he received the degree of a Dr.-Ing. In 1979 he joined in the Research Center of Carl-Zeiss Jena. He worked most of time in a division for the development of photolithographic steppers for microelectronics. He was responsible for high precision piezoelectric positioning units for the levelling of wafers in one or three degrees of freedom. After that he worked in an Institute for Physical Engineering (PTI) in Jena as a supervisor for a scanning electron microscope. There he investigated resist systems for microelectronics. After the reunification
of Germany he became Professor in the 1991 new founded University
of Applied Sciences Jena. In the department for Electrical and Information
Engineering his fields in education are electrical drives, actuators
and power electronics. In research he is interested in linear and
planar motors. He is working with small power asynchronous motors
and piezoelectric actuators. He is a member of VDI and IEEE.
